Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Kunst - Malerei, Note: 2, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Institut für Kunstgeschichte), Veranstaltung: Erzählende Bilder im 20. Jahrhundert, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Oeuvre von Andy Warhol nehmen die Bilder der Death-and-Disaster-Serie einen besonderen Platz ein. In ihnen beschäftigt Warhol sich, ganz im Sinne der amerikanischen Pop Art, intensiv mit der Gleichgültigkeit der durch die Massenmedien verbreiteten Informationen und schafft dabei gleichzeitig eine Art 'schönen Horror', der vom Betrachter emotional bewältigt werden kann. Warhol selbst hat zu seinen Disaster-Bildern zwar wiederholt gesagt, dass sie von ihm nicht kritisch gemeint seien, aber dadurch, dass sie von der Gesellschaft akzeptiert und in verschiedensten Ausstellungen gezeigt wurden, wurden die Bilder dann doch zu einer Kritik an eben dieser Gesellschaft. Warhols Disaster-Motive haben einen festen Platz in unserem visuellen Gedächtnis gefunden, da sie einen Spiegel auf unsere Gesellschaft, auf unseren Lebensstil werfen; und natürlich auch, da sie, schon bevor Warhol sie für seine Bilder benutzte, millionenfach in verschiedenen Medien reproduziert wurden. Die Disaster-Serie ist auch von daher besonders interessant, da es Warhol hier gelungen ist, die Grenze zwischen bildender Kunst und Massenkultur einzureißen, Sinn und Bedeutung von 'Kunst' an sich in Frage zu stellen. Anhand eines umgrenzten Ausschnitts der Death-and-Disaster-Serie, den Car-Crash-Bildern, möchte ich in dieser Hausarbeit die verschiedenen narrativen Strategien aufzeigen die Warhol, bewusst oder unbewusst, benutzt, um seine persönliche Geschichte unserer modernen Wirklichkeit zu erzählen bzw. um uns von ihr zu berichten. Den Schwerpunkt bildet dabei Warhols Technik der Repetition der einzelnen Photovorlagen, doch auch Siebdrucktechnik, Farbwahl, das Einsetzen von Leerstellen usw. tragen dazu bei, dass Warhol die bekannten Pressebilder nicht einfach erneut reproduzie
