Kaum eine Nation hat eine so enge und begeisterte Bindung wie die Niederländer zu ihrer Nationalhyme "Het Wilhelmus". Sie ist in der Einheit von Text und Melodie die älteste Nationalhymne der Welt. Unzählige Forscher haben sich über Jahrhunderte mit der Entstehungsgeschichte von "Het Wilhelmus" befasst. So war auch die Autorenschaft des Philipp Marnix von St. Aldegonde bis heute umstritten, wird aber nun in diesem Buch endgültig belegt. Auch weitere bisher offene Fragen werden hier beantwortet: Wo, wann, weshalb und in welcher historischen Situation wurden die Worte von "Het Wilhelmus" gedichtet? Gudrun Anne Dekker ist durch akribische Recherchen den Antworten auf die Spur gekommen. Sie ging unter anderem von der Frage aus, ob "Het Wilhelmus" vielleicht in ihrer Norder Nachbarschaft, auf dem Adelssitz der Lütetsburg, entstanden sein könnte, denn das hätte die Region Ostfriesland sicherlich mit Stolz erfüllt. Die Autorin suchte nach Belegen, kam aber stattdessen in jahrelanger historischer Detektivarbeit zu Ergebnissen, die sie selbst nicht erwartet hätte: Die Hymne wurde unter äußerst dramatischen Umständen in der niederländischen Stadt Haarlem gedichtet - eine Ehre, die im Dezember 2012, zum 440. Jubiläum, dort sicherlich gebührend gefeiert werden wird.
About the Author: Gudrun Anne Dekker befasst sich seit über zwanzig Jahren intensiv mit der Erforschung der ostfriesischen Geschichte und der des Groningerlandes. Bereits 1989 veröffentlichte sie im "Ostfrieslandmagazin" (Soltau-Kurier-Verlag-Norden = SKN-Verlag) etliche Beiträge über die Burgengeographie und Burgengeschichte Ostfrieslands und dem nördlichen Groningerland. Weitere Forschungsthemen waren/sind z.B.das Emder Stadtwappen, die Person des Junker Johann Sissingh, bekannt als Klaus Störtebeker, aus der Stadt Groningen, Das Geheimnis des Monogramms an der Waage zu Leer, das Geheimnis der Theelacht, das "Hohe Haus" in Greetsiel oder das Norder Stadtwappen. Ein aktuelles Projekt ist Ihre "Wilhelmus"-Forschung, die Sie bereits in der niederländischen Stadt Haarlem präsentiert hat. Die Ubbo-Emmius-Biographie ist Ihre bisher umfangreichste Arbeit.
