Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2002 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europas - Neueste Geschichte, Europäische Einigung, Note: 1, Philipps-Universität Marburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Noch heute rangiert der 1936 unter der Leitung von Ernst Sagebiel begonnene Gebäudekomplex des Flughafens Berlin-Tempelhof mit über 300.000 m² Bruttogeschossfläche unter den größten Bürobauten der Welt. Damit erfüllt er bis in unsere Tage die von den Nationalsozialisten bei der Konzeption geforderte Eigenschaft der Monumentalität und präsentiert sich als das von Hitler erwünschte "Wort aus Stein". Der Flughafen Tempelhof befindet sich wiederholt innerhalb der Diskussion um einen möglichen Modernisierungsprozess in Deutschland unter dem Naziregime. Von besonderer Bedeutung präsentiert sich der Flughafenkomplex in Berlin-Tempelhof vor allem deshalb, weil er, abgesehen von den Bauten der Olympischen Spiele 1936 in Berlin und den Überresten der Reichsparteitagsbauten in Nürnberg, als einziges architektonisches Zeugnis zur Kompensation des nationalsozialistischen Bedarfs nach Weltgeltung realisiert wurde. Dabei gilt es zu klären, in wie weit die Planungen für den Neubau des Tempelhofer Flughafens von den Machtansprüchen und dem Größenwahn der Nazis beeinflusst worden sind. Im Zusammenhang damit stellt sich ferner die Frage, ob die revolutionären Ideen innerhalb des Neubaukonzepts auf dem technischen Interesse beispielsweise Adolf Hitlers fußten oder lediglich dem nationalsozialistischen Willen nach Selbstdarstellung durch gigantische Architektur entsprangen? Gehörte damit der `Weltflughafen´ Tempelhof auf Grund seiner Megalomanie und zentralen Lage zu Albert Speers Neugestaltungsprogramm der Reichshauptstadt Berlin? Welche Bedeutung hatte der Flughafen für die Luftfahrt und gleichzeitig für den repräsentativen Anspruch der Nazis?
