About the Author

Noshir H Wadia MD, FRCP (London), FNA, FA Sc, FAMS, D Sc (Honoris Causa) graced the position of Director, Department of Neurology and Director of Research, Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai till recently. He was the Professor of Neurology at the Grant Medical College and JJ Hospitals and is consultant for life at the institution. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London, the Indian National Science Academy, the Indian Academy of Sciences, and the Indian Academy of Medical Science. He was conferred the D Sc (Honoris Causa) by the Banaras Hindu University. He was the former President and Governing Council Member of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (an institute of national importance). He was the President of the Neurological Society of India in 1964. He has delivered many recognized orations and received several prestigious awards for excellence and lifetime achievement amongst which is the coveted Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Medal 2003 for excellence in general science by the Indian National Science Academy. On the international scene, he was the Vice President of the World Federation of Neurology and Chairman and Member of its several research groups. In 2012, the Government of India honored him with the title of Padma Bhushan. Prof Wadia has published a large number of research papers in national and international journals and has also delivered invited lectures on neurology in several international forums. Satish V Khadilkar MD, DM, DNBE is presently Honorary Professor and Head, Department of Neurology, Grant Medical College and Sir J J Group of Hospitals, Mumbai. He is also consultant neurologist at the Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences, Mumbai. He serves as Editor-in-chief, Annals of Indian Academy of Neurology which is the official journal of Indian Academy of Neurology. He has trained and worked in the field of muscle disorders and has given initial Indian descriptions of sarcoglycanopathies, dysferlinopathies and calpainopathies in the Agarwal community. He represents India on Asian myology forum. He has worked as expert on ICMR committees. He was president of Maharashtra Association of Neurology in 2013 and is president elect, Bombay Neurological Association. He has been working for the muscular dystrophy society of Mumbai, as secretary and trustee. He has authored over hundred research publications in national and international peer reviewed journals and has published two neurology books. He lectures at programmes for medical students, medical consultants and neurologists and has delivered orations on diverse fora. He has been examiner for DM neurology in various universities.
