About the Book

The New Concept of Stress is a journey through the stress process. It contains the information you need to know to prevent, manage and overcome stress. Conquer stress, do not endure it! The book begins with a description of the nuts and bolts of stress. Stress may not be what you think it is! A short description of the history of stress defines how stress concepts evolved. Stress penetrates every organ system of the body with destructive effects. Studying the "Anatomy and Physiology" of stress teaches you where and how stress operates to produce illness. We then introduce you to our unique concept of "stress forces" the individual pressures that produce stress. They are divided into external and internal stress forces, not physical and emotional. "External stress forces" are those which arise from the environment and then infiltrate your body to cause stress, such as acute trauma (an auto accident), life changes (having a baby) and daily living pressures (problems at work). "Internal stress forces" are those which arise from within, upsetting your equilibrium. The covert, largely hidden pressures that produce stress by undermining your powers of resistance, such as communication style (overt active aggression), personality liabilities (narcissism), pre-existing illnesses (diabetes) and dietary poisons (eight ingested chemicals). They are silent killers that destroy health, day by day by day. "Stress should not be feared." It is the natural consequence of growth and life change. This book will teach you to convert distress into productive energy to resolve life's problems.
About the Author: Dr. Bielinski began his journey into stress medicine when he became a Flight Surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He flew medical air evacuation missions between Vietnam and the United States, which offered him the opportunity to treat the effects of stress illnesses, produced by battlefield experiences. Following his Asian experiences, Dr. Bielinski completed his residency in psychiatry at the Neuropsychiatric Institute, UCLA. He was granted a research fellowship and then became an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA. Dr. Bielinski founded the Medical Stress Center and became the Director of the Medical Stress Unit at the Burbank Community Hospital, in 1975. He was one of the first physicians in Southern California to utilize stress treatment techniques, such as the mind body concept, acupuncture, feedback training, hypnosis, relaxation training and stress medication in the treatment of stress illness. He also broadened the concept of stress illness to include acute trauma, activities of daily living, pre-existing illness, communication style, personality traits, dietary chemical poisons, exercise and sleep as potential causes of stress illness. This comprehensive approach greatly increases the effectiveness of stress treatment. Dr. Bielinski is now in private practice in Sherman Oaks, California. He is the Director of "The Medical Stress Center" and treats the emotional conditions related to stress illness.
