About the Book

In NSS Book 1, 'The Emergence of Kanti, ' we introduced the readers to a newer kind of folktale. Nia Kpelle, a descendant of the Mano Tribe in Liberia, Africa has discovered that she has been given a gift. All of the elder women of her tribe are blessed with many different powers: the power to heal, the power to foresee the future, the power of unseen strength, the power to predict the weather or perhaps the burden of bearing children and never seeing them grow into age. The Mano women, past and present, have the capability to change their world. As Nia develops her gift and realizes that there is a need for a shero, she becomes someone who can make a difference when there seems to be no vigilante. She struggles between fitting in with Korrupt's elite or standing out, and fighting the fight for young women in her community being abused, torn down, and belittled. In NSS Book 2, 'Fright Knight, ' Nia is now coming into her own as the visions of Racquel's encounter are becoming clearer and more vivid. Korrupt H.S is in full Halloween mode with Nia, Nye, and Rasheeda and her new boyfriend, Casper. Nye may not be the 'Prince Charming' Nia thought he was and may turn out to be a true 'Korrupt Knight' quarterbac
About the Author: Prescella Lanai Monger. "Working on Nia's Sick Sense has truly been a magical experience. Our love of Sci-fi and African folktale has inspired us to create an urban fiction that captures the hearts and minds of many young readers who can relate. During my matriculation at Clark Atlanta University, I met Natasha C. Handy, a dear friend of mine and the editor of NSS Book 2, who received her Bachelor's degree in English. Ms. Handy is currently an Administrator and Executive Assistant to the Principal of a Charter Middle School in Trenton, New Jersey. I look forward to working with other talented young women in our future projects through Kpelle Tales." Virginia Alexandria Monger. "Our vision for NSS Book 2 is to give the reader a clearer picture of Nia's world and how it relates to many young girls today. Nia is the girl next door, with a peculiar and extraordinary gift. I want the reader to see her strengths and not just her weakness. She is human, has regular teenage emotions, all while becoming her own woman. She, in a sense, finally finds her own and is now ready to take on a new role. Special thanks are in order to my top favorite cousin, Don Williams and my oldest sister Denise Muldrow for their continuous support. And finally, Chelsey L. Thomas for coming on board as our illustrator on this project. Ms. Thomas is currently majoring in Animation and minoring in Sequential Art at Savannah College of Art & Design in Atlanta, Georgia. It was a pleasure working with you. I have no doubt in my mind that the readers will not only find 'Fright Knight' enjoyable as well as relatable, but they will also find it quite thrilling."
