Ein mögliches Anwendungsgebiet für Theorien der visuellen Aufmerksamkeit stellen Probleme der Informations-über-mittlung im Straßenverkehr dar. Der Autor Raoul Bell gibt in seiner Diplomarbeit einführend einen Überblick über grundlagenwissenschaftliche Modelle der visuellen Aufmerksamkeit. Grundlage für seine Untersuchung bilden objektbasierte Theorien der visuellen Aufmerksamkeit, die davon aus-gehen, dass sich Aufmerksamkeit nicht auf Regionen, sondern auf Objekte oder perzeptuelle Gruppen richtet. Aus den Ergebnissen der empirischen For-schung zu diesen Theorien der visuellen Aufmerksamkeit lassen sich Design-regeln ableiten, wie zusammengehörige Informationen präsentiert werden soll-ten, um eine effiziente Informationsübertragung zu gewährleisten. In einem Experiment, das auf diesen Vorhersagen aufbaut, wird untersucht, ob diese Prinzipien gewinnbringend auf die Gestaltung von Verkehrsschildern angewendet werden können.
