Video Corridor è un'installazione di Bruce Nauman che consiste in un corridoio di alcuni metri di lunghezza. Alla prima estremità è installata una videocamera collegata in circuito chiuso con uno schermo video dalla parte opposta. Il visitatore entra nel corridoio e viene ripreso di spalle mentre si allontana dalla videocamera avvicinandosi alla figura sullo schermo. L'esito è inquietante: si vede uno sconosciuto che si allontana e si scopre che questo qualcuno estraneo, visto di spalle, irriconoscibile a prima vista, siamo noi stessi. Chi siamo noi che vediamo noi stessi come un altro che si allontana mentre ci avviciniamo? E che cos'è ciò che vedo? un'opera d'arte che pone domande filosofiche o un trattato di filosofia del soggetto illustrato da un artefatto? Si potrebbe osservare che qui si ha la visibile dimostrazione di un ribaltamento - del soggetto, della cultura, dell'arte - ottenuto attraverso un medium audiovisuale, e che possiamo definire appunto "obversione". Già Benjamin vedeva nel cinema un'espropriazione che poteva permettere l'accesso alla scoperta dell'"inconscio ottico" - ma oggi le cose sono andate più avanti. Siamo passati da una generica "riproducibilità tecnica" a uno "stadio-video" che si configura come fase ulteriore e più radicale dello stadio dello specchio lacaniano, che porta dalla consapevolezza (immaginaria) della propria identità alla sconcertante scoperta della propria radicale dis-identità, del fatto di essere e, insieme, non essere se stessi. L'installazione di Nauman anticipa e compendia la dinamica più generale di dis-identificazione mediale, dalla banalizzazione del reality show, fino al sistematico effetto di estraneità che proviamo quando ci capita di passare davanti a una vetrina dove casualmente è installata una telecamera che ci riprende mentre passiamo. Questo mondo in cui tutto si capovolge e in cui ogni cosa è se stessa e, insieme, il suo contrario, strano inferno senza speranza di redenzione, è l'era contemporanea. - Marco Senaldi (Gallarate 1960 - vive a Piacenza), critico e teorico d'arte, ha insegnato cinema e arti visive in varie università.
