Jordyn Keddington is just getting into the rhythm of her exciting new job working at Oceanside Animal Rescue. It's a job she's wanted since graduating high school, and after years of schooling, dedication, and hard work, she's finally achieved her dream.
But then, one of the veterinarians at work is murdered, and Jordyn finds herself on the suspect list. She is told not to return to work until the detectives have interrogated her and deemed her not to be a threat, and with so many employees at Oceanside she knows she'll be one of the last to meet with them. Left with nothing but time on her hands, Jordyn finds herself worrying about the animals at work, worrying about whether or not she'll have a job to return to when the detectives are through with her, and worrying that the police will end up arresting her for a murder she didn't commit.
As if these circumstances aren't enough, she finds herself at the beach one day talking to a mysterious, and overly confident, stranger. Her years of watching cop shows tell her to run away, and she spurns the advances of her suspicious visitor.
She soon learns that this visitor isn't a random stranger at all, but is Detective Charlie LeBlanc, one of the men investigating the murder. Jordyn worries her behavior at the beach has made him suspicious of her, but instead it has made him intrigued. Despite the rude way she acted on the beach, their second encounter goes much better and they're surprised to find how much they have in common. Once Jordyn is cleared to return to work, Charlie decides to pursue their relationship further and asks her out. As they date, Jordyn is surprised to find how much she enjoys being with this handsome, adventurous detective. For the first time in her life she starts to believe a relationship might actually work out ... but then she learns just how dangerous Charlie's job is, and that he isn't being completely honest with her about the case, and she wonders if she can really have a relationship where half the time she worried sick about him and the other half she's wondering what exactly he isn't telling her.
With some tough decisions to make, and a murderer still on the loose at work, Jordyn and Charlie wonder if they should simply break up or if their love can endure.
When Jordyn ends up in the hands of the murderer, Charlie knows that there isn't anything he wouldn't do for her, and he's fully committed to making their relationship work. Unfortunately for the both of them, he might be too late.
