About the Book

This is the second novel of the intriguing 'Octagon Fragrance' series. Senior homicide detective Henry Gordon and his close companion Tracey DeLacy are once again drawn into a succession of wildly strenuous moments when they realize that the clones going under the collective name of Cleo Green somehow survived the catastrophe inflicted on them at their Vulcan base. They also discover that the Cleo Greens harbour more incredible secrets and ambitions much wider than they could ever have imagined. Along the way our unlikely heroes also discover more about their human selves and begin to ponder what the future has in store for them after their crossing of the lusty and passionate threshold of their relationship. To further complicate this heady mix of high adventure, romance, mystery and ambition, constable Margaret Rafter makes her move to escalate her long standing friendship with Henry into something more and that leads to totally unexpected consequences. New faces join in as things get under way and the ageless and indestructible DC3 Mike Mike Zulu still wings them from one situation to another. Apart from knocking about all over Australia the members of the team also find themselves embroiled in the politics of a small kingdom located in the horn of Eastern Africa. All this happens against the background of the sisters' gigantic gold smuggling operation that threatens the economies of all the nations of the free world. Join in and see how this mismatched and most human of groups battle and muddle their way through to put matters right, not only for the world, but between themselves as well.
About the Author: Herbert Back lives in Queensland, Australia, and is educated to university standard. He has followed a great number of pursuits in his lifetime and even in retirement is involved with computers, electronics, carpentry, motor mechanics, metal working and, of course, writing. He spent a great deal of his younger days travelling by every means available all over the vast state of Queensland and also embarked on several long motoring trips through the other states of Australia. Willing to try his hand at anything he worked as a public servant, clerk, accounting machine technician, postal officer, taxi driver, milk vendor, motor mechanic, metal worker and even farm hand. For relaxation Herbert enjoys reading, music, gardening and membership at a local gym. A lifetime fascination with movies has seen him build up an impressive library of titles both old and new and his tastes extend to most genres although he admits to a distinct bias to science fiction, modern action and romantic comedy. Another aspect of modern life Herbert finds endlessly fascinating is aviation and the space industry. He recalls being on a study course when the first moon landing was achieved and admits that while the details of that epic journey come very easily to mind he has retained nothing about what the course was about! All through his life Herbert nursed an ambition to write fictional novels. During his last decade of active employment human cloning became, and still is, a major social issue. He saw in that inspiration for a series of novels that were not too heavy handed or moralistic to explore at a reasonably practical level what might happen when a group of cloned women are unleashed upon an unsuspecting free world. So the Cleo Greens were born. Naturally Herbert could not let the clones snatch all of the limelight so the story became a rollicking tale of adventure, romance, human relationships and ambition. As a writer he hopes that his readers enjoy his work as much as he did creating it! At present Herbert has struck a conundrum as to what to do with the "Octagon Fragrance" series now that "The Nightingale Initiative" is complete. He is hoping that feedback from his loyal readers will present him with the best direction to take, but, rest assured, he will not remain idle for long!
