Ein okosystemisches Menschenbild ist eine Weiterentwicklung des dreidimensionalen "biopsychosozialen" Menschenbildes und - im klinischen Kontext bedeutsam - eines dreidimensionalen Krankheitsbildes. Es betont den okosystemischen Aspekt des "Umwelt-Beziehungs-Haushalts" des Menschen und ist so ein Gegenentwurf zu den uberhand nehmenden reduktionistischen und eindimensionalen Menschenbildern, die einzelne Disziplinen wie die Biologie, die Psychologie, die Soziologie oder die Okonomie propagieren. Steuerungsfaktoren menschlichen Verhaltens sind nicht nur die "egoistischen" Gene, das Gehirn, die soziale Lage, der monetare Nutzen oder die physische Umwelt alleine, sondern das Zusammenspiel all dieser und anderer Faktoren. Es wird gezeigt, dass die wissenschaftliche Rationalitat derartiger Ansatze sowohl empirisch wie auch theoretisch begrenzter ist, als es ihre Protagonisten behaupten. Daruber hinaus ist es in Arbeitsfeldern mit Menschen, wie beispielsweise im klinischen Bereich, nicht sinnvoll, die Komplexitat des Gefuges all dieser Wirkfaktoren konzeptuell zu reduzieren, sondern es ist notig, einen wenigstens dreidimensionalen biopsychosozialen Betrachtungsrahmen zu bewahren, um der Individualitat und Subjektivitat der einzelnen Menschen gerecht werden zu konnen. Die Verbindungen zwischen den Dimensionen "Bio", "Psycho", und "Sozial" sind "zirkular". Diese Zirkularitat von Kausalketten erfordert es, die modernen (naturwissenschaftlichen) Theorien der Komplexitat und der nichtlinearen Dynamik in einen anthropologischen Rahmen einzubeziehen. Ein Konzept, das den konkreten Menschen als Produkt seiner bisherigen Person-Umwelt-Interaktionen wahrnimmt, ist realistischer als personologische Konzepte oder Umwelt-Determinismen. Neben einer solchen "okologischen" Perspektive soll verdeutlicht werden, dass das systemische Denken die Antwort auf die intellektuelle Herausforderung bietet, Komplexitat und Entwicklung in einem Denkansatz zu verbinden. Dazu werden wichtige Arbeitsergebnisse systemischen Denkens in der jungeren Wissenschaftsgeschichte herangezogen und vor allem die Methode des systemischen Denkens vorangestellt. Hinzu kommt die ausdruckliche Einbindung konkreter Umweltbereiche, um das Sosein und das Dasein der Menschen, vor allem im klinischen Kontext, besser zu verstehen.
