About the Book

For his sixth publication, Bob Hocking returns to the writing found in Strange and Unexpected: Backpack on the Road, the three-volume effort that has come to be known as the Travel Trilogy. At the heart of the book are trips to Georgia and Florida in 2012 and 2013. With several of the companions from previous adventures returning, Bob invites you to join in on days spent in theme parks, drives along streets lined by moss-covered trees, and the phenomenal food at Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room.Something Old, Something New: Savannah to Orlando includes the assortment of "Best of..." columns, daily diaries and observational essays that have become familiar to his readers. In addition, two sections feature brand new material that has never been published previously. These appendixes are titled "A Brief History" and "We can do this the easy way, or...", and have been designed to provide quick thoughts, recommendations and tips for the locations involved in this effort.Savannah and Orlando offer two of the most amazing cities in the world, and they take center stage in Something Old, Something New.
About the Author: Bob Hocking has authored six books as of the 2016 release of Something Old, Something New: Savannah to Orlando. A graduate of Syracuse University, his professional endeavors have covered a diverse selection of subjects while calling upon his communication abilities, writing skills, and occasionally even his bachelor's degree in English. In March of 2003, Bob brought his writing efforts his own web site, In My Backpack. (www.inmybackpack.com) Over the years, the site has included material such as general interest, sports and travel. He has also produced interviews and captured the flavors-of-the-day in an on-going monthly journal. Bob has conducted hundreds of interviews, many of which have appeared on his site. Some of the people he has met and worked with on projects include: Tom Colicchio, Suzi Quatro, Earl Swift, Jimmy Haslip, Terry Fator, Jerry Springer, and Emilio Estefan. He considers himself "a writer with a camera", though that concept understates a sizeable portfolio of professional work. On his web site, photo galleries exist for several entertainers, as well as a feature on the award-winning exhibition Diana: A Celebration. His photographs have been used by groups such as Legends in Concert. Bob's first book, Time Just Drifts Away, was released in July of 2012. A collection of essays and interviews, Time Just Drifts Away featured efforts that had been a part of the web site going back to its first days. In 2013, Bob published what has affectionately become known as the Travel Trilogy. Strange and Unexpected: Backpack on the Road is a three-volume effort showcasing adventures in Florida, California and Las Vegas. In April of 2016, Thirty Days in November became the publication of Bob's fifth book. Containing non-fiction essays, the primary connecting element was that each effort was originally produced during the month of November. Born and raised in Rhode Island, Bob currently lives with his wife, Terry in the northeast United States.
