In teils derb-humorvoller Weise beleuchtet Max Spiecker in seinen Erzählungen und Anekdoten das Alltagsleben im Pommern der Jahre 1850 bis 1925. Er erzählt über die Zeit, als Usedom noch keinen Eisenbahnanschluss hat, noch keinen "Kulturanschluss", wie er es nennt. Vom Deutsch-Französischen Krieg 1870/71 wird erzählt, von der Gründung des Deutschen Reiches unter Bismarck, von der Kaiserzeit, vom Ersten Weltkrieg, von der Inflation 1923, von der Einführung des Achtstundentages. Ausgiebig wird über das Studentenleben in Greifswald erzählt, über drei Arten von Studenten: über die Strebsamen, die ihr Examen nach der vorgeschriebenen Zeit ablegen, über die, die ihr Studium nicht ganz so ernst nehmen und auch gern mal ein Bier über den Durst trinken und über die, die ewige Studenten geblieben sind. Viele der beschriebenen Alltagssorgen der Menschen von damals erkennen wir in unserer heutigen "modernen" Zeit durchaus wieder. Das Buch ist im Original in plattdeutscher Sprache erschienen. Erstmals liegt es nun auch in Hochdeutsch vor. Auf den linken Seiten des Buches steht der plattdeutsche Originaltext, auf den rechten Seiten der ins Hochdeutsche übertragene Text.
About the Author: Max Spiecker wurde 1854 in der Stadt Usedom geboren. Als er sieben Jahre alt war, zog die Familie nach Jacobshagen bei Stargard, später nach Stargard in Pommern. Dort besuchte er das Gymnasium und legte 1873 die Reifeprüfung ab. Von 1873 bis 1878 studierte er an der Königlichen Universität zu Greifswald Geschichte, antike Kunst und Erdkunde. Nach Probejahren war er 1881/82 wissenschaftlicher Hilfslehrer an Gymnasium und Realschule Stolp in Hinterpommern und von 1882 bis 1890 am Gymnasium in Anklam. 1890 schließlich wurde er vereidigt und bekam die erste Anstellung im höheren Schuldienst Preußens als Rektor der Höheren Mädchenschule Anklam. 1896 wurde er nach Stolp in Hinterpommern versetzt und war dort bis zu seiner Pensionierung Direktor der Höheren Mädchenschule. Seiner Geburtsstadt Usedom blieb er treu, besuchte sie immer wieder. 1882 heiratete er die Tochter des Usedomer Arztes Dr. Böttcher. Aus der Ehe gingen vier Söhne hervor. Nach seiner Pensionierung schrieb Max Spiecker Erinnerungen, Anekdoten und Humoresken über Kindheit, Jugend, seine Studentenzeit in Greifswald, seine Zeit als Schuldirektor aber vor allem über sein geliebtes Pommern. 1927 erschien der Titel "Ollermann vertellt", 1932 "Oll Radloff un anner Geschichten". 1937 starb Max Spiecker im Alter von 82 Jahren in Stolp in Hinterpommern.
