Facharbeit (Schule) aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Gesundheit - Sport - Sportgeschichte, Note: 1, Korbinian-Aigner-Gymnasium Erding, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Nach Baron Pierre de Coubertin, dem Mann, der die Olympischen Spiele 1896 in Athen wieder zum Leben erweckte, ist das oberste Ziel der Spiele Völkerverständigung. Ausdruck findet dieser Wunsch in der Olympischen Charta, dem "Regelwerk" der Spiele, an das sich jede teilnehmende Nation und jeder Sportler zu halten hat, zum anderen ist auch die olympische Flagge ein Symbol dafür. Sie besteht aus fünf verschiedenfarbigen ineinander verschlungenen Ringen, wobei die Ringe für die fünf Kontinente der Erde stehen. Auf der olympischen Fahne erscheinen die Ringe auf weißem Grund. Ihre Farben - blau, gelb, schwarz, grün, rot und weiß - repräsentieren gleichzeitig die Nationalflaggen aller Nationen. Die Flagge veranschaulicht so also gewissermaßen einen internationalen Zusammenhalt aller Staaten. Coubertins große Hoffnung war es, dass die Spiele durch die Begegnung der Jugend im sportlichen Wettkampf einen wichtigen Beitrag zum Weltfrieden leisten würden. Die Hoffnung blieb Utopie. Von Beginn an hatte es die olympische Bewegung nicht leicht. Man hatte einerseits mit der Zerstrittenheit der europäischen Staaten zu kämpfen und andererseits mit den imperialistischen Ansprüchen der Großmächte weltweit. Direkt und indirekt nahm die Politik damit stets Einfluss auf die Olympiaden. Doch damit nicht genug: Immer wieder in ihrer Geschichte wurden die Olympischen Spiele von Staaten, Organisationen, Gruppierungen und Einzelpersonen dazu benutzt, sich Gehör zu verschaffen und politische Interessen zu vertreten oder durchzusetzen. Die Spiele, bis hin zu den Sportlern, wurden dafür instrumentalisiert. Allzu oft wirkten die Absichten die dahinter standen, dem ursprünglichen Friedensgedanken von Coubertin entgegen.
