About the Author: Karl-Hans Mayer, alias Hein Mayer, wurde am 16. Januar 1921 in Halle (Saale) geboren. Mittlere Reife in Holstein, Schauspieleleve in Schlesien und vorzeitig Dienender als Voraussetzung zur Aufnahme des Studiums der Drama-turgie und Regie. Als Infanterist Teilnehmer an mehreren Feldzügen, dreimal verwundet, danach nicht mehr fronteinsatzfähig. 1942 Truppenbetreuung bei der Kriegsmarine, dann freiwillig wieder zum Heer. Als Schirrmeister (K) Rückzugsgefechte vom Kaukasus bis Tschechoslowakei. Am 13. Mai 1945 durch amerikanische Truppe an Rote Armee (gefesselt) ausgeliefert. Gefangenschaft in Briansk, Gorki, Stalingrad, Swerdlowsk. Dort tätig als Bauhelfer, Straßenbauer, Maschinist und Zimmermann. Ab 1949 bis 1954 Stückeschreiber, Darsteller, Organisator und Kulturgruppenleiter im Hauptlager Stalingrad. Seit 1946 als ehemaliger, hauptamtlicher Jugendführer verfolgt und nach vielen Vernehmungen unterschiedlicher Grade im Dezember 1949 in Stalingrad, in Abwandlung der Todesstrafe zu 25 Jahren Zwangsarbeit verurteilt. Heimgekehrt aus Sibirien am 13. Oktober 1955. Kaufmännischer Volontär in einem Automobilwerk. Dort langjährige Führungskraft. Berufliche und ehrenamtliche Tätigkeit in nationalen und internationalen Gremien. Betreiber der Begehren zur Annullierung der widersinni-gen Pauschalurteile für 421 überlebende Kriegsgefangene. (Selbst am 26.04.93 durch Generalstaatsanwaltschaft der Russischen Föderation voll rehabilitiert) Engagiert bei der privaten Klärung von Grablagen und Vermißtenschicksalen deutscher und russischer Soldaten, im ehem. Verband der Heimkehrer, im Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. und im Verein zur Bergung Gefallener im Osteuropa. (VBGO) Seit 1964 Sprecher der Stalingrader Spätheimkehrer. Träger des Bundesverdienstkreuzes. Autor und Co-Autor. Witwer, eine Tochter.
