About the Book

Gunmen pull over a truck carrying spent Terrier and Talos anti-aircraft missiles to the new Navy Museum in Washington, DC. They kill both drivers and take the primary driver's identification. But it seems that nothing else was taken. Or even disturbed. The Office of Criminal Investigation is assigned to solve this crime because it involved civilian employees of the United States Navy. Captain Rena Skye guides her team of OCI operatives to find the murderers. But numerous seemingly unrelated events cause Skye to gather her whole team together again. By the time these events are connected, OCI has agents at work to uncover a massive plot extending from California to New York and South Dakota to Florida. Follow the OCI investigators in a complex and bewildering case to crack a plot that could possibly destroy the United States in a nuclear holocaust.
About the Author: Richard Bergeron grew up all over the U.S.A., but primarily in Rock Island, Illinois. In 1960, he joined the Navy at age 19 and stayed for ten years. He served five and a half years on sea duty, mostly on destroyers. His final assignment was as a weapons control electronics repair and maintenance instructor in Newport, Rhode Island. Bergeron moved to Minnesota in late 1969, where he worked at Control Data Corporation (CDC), the Red School House in Saint Paul, Minnesota Educational Computing Corporation (MECC, the "Oregon Trail" people) and August Technology Corporation. He served two years in AmeriCorps with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights and a year as VISTA Leader with the Minneapolis Public School system. He married his wife Barbara in 1968. They have three sons. Bergeron earned a Bachelor's degree summa cum laude (1978) with an American History major and an American Indian Studies minor. As a result of his association with Indian people, a Dakota family adopted him. He and Barbara worked for eleven years with the Minneapolis Juneteenth Committee to put on a major celebration of the end of African American Slavery. Now retired, Bergeron is able to do two things he's wanted to do for many years: teach American Indian Studies in the Minneapolis Schools' Community Education Program, and write books. Bergeron's novel, Needle on the Haystack, was his first published fiction. This book, Operation Firethorn, is book two in his OCI series. He has also published a book of poetry, Where Did The Sunrise Go? His website is richard-bergeron.weebly.com. Among other things there, you can find photographs and miscellaneous information relating to his writing.
