L'étude se concentre sur l'amélioration des performances de l'essieu arrière des véhicules lourds tels que les camions, les tracteurs, les remorques, les bus et autres véhicules lourds soumis à une charge supérieure à la capacité de charge prévue. Puisque les véhicules sont soumis à une charge supérieure à la capacité prévue, l'objectif secondaire est d'améliorer la répartition des contraintes résultant d'une charge excessive et de prendre des mesures efficaces pour augmenter la capacité de charge. Le modèle solide de conception de base est soumis à des conditions de chargement réelles pour une analyse statique en régime permanent. Après l'analyse, le modèle est soumis à une simulation d'optimisation de la topologie, dont les résultats servent à déterminer la zone critique, les méthodes et les modifications possibles de la géométrie et les zones où l'ajout ou le retrait de matériaux optimisera la conception. Les multiples modifications apportées à la géométrie et à l'affectation des matériaux ont permis d'obtenir un modèle plus léger, efficace, résistant et rentable pour l'essieu arrière d'un véhicule lourd.
