About the Book

When Polish Air Force pilot, Alek Kasabov, is shot down during the 1939 invasion, he faces the choice of dying in a labor camp or joining the SS, killing Jews in Eastern Europe. After months of this bloody work he escapes and joins the Polish Resistance. He hopes to reach Warsaw and reuniting with his pregnant wife, Katia, but when he reaches the city he learns she is dead. Driven by guilt and trying to atone, Alek becomes a fearless Resistance fighter. At the end of the war Alex immigrates to the Peruvian Andes where he finds a colony of expatriate Nazis. Alek is haunted by his days with the SS and convinced that someone will recognize him, a fear that is encouraged by a former concentration camp doctor. Alek' paranoia grows until he finally tries to flee the mountain. An Ordinary Man is filled with stories of brave men, women and children in occupied Poland, offset by glimpses of life in the Peruvian Andes. It is a gripping tale of an ordinary man's attempts to survive.
