Das Thema Organspende wird in unserer Gesellschaft sehr einseitig gesehen. Man betrachtet im Grunde nur den Organempfänger, dessen Leben durch eine Transplantation gerettet werden kann. Den Spender hat man kaum im Blick, weil man glaubt, dass dieser ohnehin tot sei. Der allgemeine Tenor lautet, dass man ihm kein Leid mehr antun könne, dass man ihn keiner Zukunft mehr berauben könne, so dass es ethisch berechtigt sei, ihm Organe zu entnehmen, wovon der Organempfänger erheblich profitieren könne. Der Spender ist aber nicht tot, sondern nur hirntot. Sein Herz pumpt Blut, sein Magen und sein Darmtrakt verdauen usw. Bestimmte Organe bzw. Zellkomplexe können noch eine Weile überleben. Darüber hinaus können die meisten Organfunktionen durch Anschluss an ein Beatmungsgerät sogar noch sehr lange aufrechterhalten werden. Auch ist nicht völlig auszuschließen, dass er trotz seines komatösen Zustands den martialischen Prozess der Explantation, der ihn letztlich tötet, wahrnehmen kann. Selbst der Nutzen, den der Organempfänger hat, ist nicht so groß, wie allgemein behauptet wird. Er muss lebenslang Medikamente nehmen, damit das fremde Organ nicht abgestoßen wird. Durch diese Immunsuppressiva wird sein Immunsystem unterdrückt und geschwächt, so dass er sehr anfällig für die verschiedensten Infektionen und Krankheiten ist. Des Weiteren wird sich in vielen Fällen sein Wesen stark verändern, was gewaltige Probleme nach sich zieht. Im Gegensatz zu den meisten Publikationen liegt der Schwerpunkt dieses Buches auf den spirituellen Folgen einer Organtransplantation für Spender und Empfänger. Es wird gezeigt, wie dadurch in das Schicksal beider eingegriffen wird und welche Folgen es im nachtodlichen Leben haben könnte.
