Debatten zur sozio-ökonomischen Entwicklung Europas und des Nahen Ostens in der Neuzeit, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Jahre 1665 zog es Evliyāʾ Çelebi zusammen mit dem Großbotschafter Ḳara Meḥmed Paşa als ersten osmanischen Reisenden in die habsburgische Reichshauptstadt Wien, was in der österreichisch-türkischen Geschichte einmalig war. Noch ein Jahr zuvor erlitt das Osmanische Reich in der Schlacht bei Mogersdorf beziehungsweise St. Gotthard unter dem Befehl des Großwesirs Fāżıl Aḥmed Paşa seine erste große Niederlage mit einem Hauptheer, was einen entscheidenden Wendepunkt in der osmanischen Kriegsgeschichte an der Westgrenze markierte und die bis dato unaufhaltsam scheinende Expansion gen Mitteleuropa plötzlich ins Stocken geraten ließ. Jener Sieg der christlichen Allianz von Habsburg und Frankreich wurde zum Vorboten des bevorstehenden duraklama dönemi (dt.: 'Stagnationsphase'), was unter anderem dazu führte, dass das Osmanische Reich erstmals auf Augenhöhe mit seinem Erzfeind aus dem Westen verhandeln musste und nicht mehr aus der bisher gewohnten Position der Überlegenheit seine Bedingungen diktieren konnte. Das Debakel vor Wien war allerdings mehr als nur eine militärische Niederlage für die Osmanen und lieferte ein offenkundiges Indiz dafür, wie weit die Divergenz zwischen der islamisch-osmanischen Welt und dem Westen bereits fortgeschritten war. Bis heute wurden in der Forschung zur Osmanistik zahlreiche Erklärungsversuche vorgelegt, um die maßgeblichen Gründe für den Niedergang des letzten türkischen Reiches in der Weltgeschichte zu ermitteln, welche jedoch unter Umständen zu kurz greifen.
