Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Sonstiges, Note: 1,7, Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg (Seminar für Alte Geschichte und Epigraphik), Veranstaltung: Das Vierkaiserjahr und die Konstituierung der Herrschaft der Flavier, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Verhältnis des Kaiser Neros, seines Vertrauten und späteren Kaisers im Vierkaiserjahr Marcus Salvius Otho und der Frau Poppaea Sabina im Jahr 58. Die Frau in dieser Konstellation ist Poppaea Sabina, welche um 31 v. Chr. geboren wurde. Sie entstammt einer bekannten Senatorenfamilie. In erster Ehe war Poppaea mit dem Ritter Rufrius Crispinus, der das Amt des Prätorianerpräfekten bekleidete, verheiratet. Nero ließ ihn ermorden, da er in ihm einen möglichen Thronaspiranten sah. Obwohl Nero den Tod ihres Mannes veranlasste, heiratete Poppaea ihn später. Die Ehe hielt bis zu ihrem Tod. Bis zu diesem Punkt ist die Überlieferung eindeutig. Doch zwischen der Trennung von ihrem ersten Mann Rufrius Crispinus und der Heirat mit Nero sind von aneinander abweichende Überlieferungen zu beoachten. Es gibt fünf verschiedene Berichte der Autoren Cassius Dio, Plutarch, Sueton und Tacitus. Keiner der Berichte stimmt inhaltlich vollkommen mit einem anderen überein. Sueton erwähnt in seinem Werk De vita Caesarum an zwei Stellen die Ereignisse um Poppaea. Tacitus gibt in zwei Werken, den Annales und den Historiae, unterschiedlich Zeugnis von den Ereignissen. Im Folgenden werde ich auf die Abweichungen eingehen, die ihre Ursache in der Funktion der jeweiligen Textstelle haben. Abweichungen ergeben sich darin, ob Nero oder Otho zuerst Kontakt mit Poppaea hatte, ob Otho Poppaea heiratete, ob Poppaea eine aktive oder passive Rolle hatte, in welchen Kontext die Erzählung eingebettet ist und wie detailliert die einzelnen Figuren gezeichnet werden.
