About the Author: Dorothy M. Johnson-Nelson was born in a small town called Mount Moriah in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica, West Indies. In 1981, she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with her husband, Roy, and their three daughters, Barbara, Audrey, and Andrea. While In Jamaica, she taught for fifteen years at the following high schools: Glanvilla High School, Christiana, Manchester Glenmiur High School, May Pen, Clarendon Vere Technical High School, Vere, Clarendon Once she moved to the United States, Dorothy's own children's education became her focus, so she didn't pursue a teaching career. Instead, she worked with News Sun Sentinel, Bank of America, Selkirk Cable, Coral Ridge Ministries, Tamarac Pre-School, and Bethel Worship Center. She attended Nova Southeastern University and did a child care course. Upon completion, she opened a child care facility in her home 2005. She started with one student in her kitchen. She was able to renew her vocational passion while helping the child grasp concepts that would better prepare her for Pre-K and Elementary School. When the student's mother saw how rapidly her child excelled, she recommended other parents to "Miss Dorothy," as she is called. Soon, the kitchen school grew so much that she decided to find a larger space that would accommodate more students. With a growing desire to enliven her teaching career, Dorothy established Bethlehem PreSchool in 2005, with the assistance of her two daughters, Barbara, Audrey, and Pastor Morency, her beloved niece. Because the preschool has outgrown its capacity, Audrey and Dorothy established Bethlehem Junior Academy in 2012. Bethlehem Junior Academy is an elementary school from kindergarten to eighth grade. As the hallmark of Dorothy's successful schools, her philosophy is "It is never too early or late to learn!" One of her favorite Scripture verse is this: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
