En esta novela de carácter biográfico, se narra la vida y obra del poeta chileno Pablo Neruda, ganador del Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1971. En esta obra el autor hace acopio de datos sobre el personaje reunidos en diversas fuentes: libros, periódicos, revistas, vídeos, documentos históricos y otros materiales escritos. La novela está dividida en dos partes. La primera concluye con la ascensión del poeta a las alturas de Macchu Picchu. A través de este viaje, Pablo Neruda percibe sobre sus hombros la grandeza de los pueblos americanos que sufrieron los avatares de una sangrienta conquista. La imaginación del protagonista es tan inmensa que se siente parte de esa gran cultura prehispánica y adivina con dolor intenso la caída del Imperio Inca y la muerte de Atahualpa, el último gran guerrero. En la segunda parte se narran los viajes posteriores del bardo chileno, en su calidad de poeta y miembro de la élite del comunismo internacional y promotor de la paz en el mundo. En este apartado nos lleva de la mano en su enamoramiento y relación tormentosa con Matilde Urrutia y la consecuente ruptura con Delia del Carril. Cansado y enfermo se entera de la muerte de su gran amigo Salvador Allende, la amargura de sus últimos momentos y su propio final el 23 de septiembre de 1973, apenas doce días después de los trágicos eventos acontecidos en el Palacio de la Moneda, los que trajeron consigo el secuestro de la democracia y la férrea dictadura de Augusto Pinochet. Vista desde cualquier ángulo, ya sea histórico, poético o romántico, Pablo es una novela interesante y humana.
About the Author: Nacido en 1957 el estado mexicano de Michoacán, el autor ha publicado hasta el momento novelas y dos libros de cuentos. En cada una de sus obras retrata la idiosincrasia de los pueblos que luchan por su emancipación. Siente un especial interés por el tema de la Guerra Civil Española, la que considera el epitome del romanticismo lírico y poético del siglo XX. La lucha del pueblo español por defender sus instituciones, ha motivado su novela "La última carta" y la retoma en "El retrato de Isabela", "Los últimos días de Virginia Torralba" y en "Pablo: La soledad errante", su última novela publicada. "El resplandor: La vida es puro cuento" y "El cazador blanco", son las colecciones de relatos que ha publicado hasta el momento, aunque él mismo reconoce su afición por ambos estilos literarios: el cuento y la novela. Actualmente se desempeña como maestro de educación primaria en su pueblo natal, aunque continúa haciéndose tiempo para disfrutar de sus dos pasiones: escribir y leer literatura.
