About the Book

Obgleich die Parodie im »Teufelsgespräch« eine zentrale Stellung einnimmt, wurde dem Roman des "ironischen Deutschen" auch nur der Anschein des Parodistischen aberkannt. Dabei konstituiert die parodistische Schreibweise, jenseits normierender Gattungsbegrenzungen, seine Multiperspektivität. Sie erhält seine Lesbarkeit und erlaubt es zugleich in den Diskursen des Erzählens über die Modalitäten des Schreibens und die Möglichkeiten moderner Kunst angesichts der Polarität von Esoterik und Epigonentum, zu reflektieren.

Die parodistische Schreibweise entfaltet sich auf zwei Ebenen. Als Metakommentar zeigt sie die Entstehungsbedingungen des Kunstwerks auf und decouvriert die Maske des Realismus. Als parodistisches Spiel erscheinen Motive, Figuren und Verhaltensmuster immer im Spiegel ihres Vexierbildes. So spiegelt der Roman seine Intertextualität als kompositorisches und schriftstellerisches Verfahren Leverkühns und Zeitbloms. Leverkühns ästhetische Überlegungen angesichts einer Kunst, deren Mittel verbraucht sind, finden weder einen Rückhall in seinen Kompositionen noch im Roman selbst. Für Authentizität bürgt allein der subjektive Sinn. Die parodistische Schreibweise widerlegt die gängigen Interpretationen als Künstler-, Faust-, Gesellschafts- und Deutschlandroman. Im "Beziehungszauber" von Rede und Gegenrede fungieren die Kompositionen als Selbstparodien des Romans. Aus der Negativität der Musik schöpft der Roman die Kraft, als Kunstwerk gegen seine eigene Negativität zu zeugen. Über das Scheitern des Erzählers obsiegt das Erzählte.
