About the Book

Nestled in the heart of the Appalachian foothills, the small town of Pine Hollow clings to its rugged charm like a stubborn vine. Surrounded by rolling hills and crisscrossed by a meandering river, the town is a place of both stark beauty and quiet despair. The hills, once a symbol of prosperity when coal mining was the lifeblood of the community, now stand as silent sentinels over a town struggling to find its way in a changing world.

Pine Hollow's story is a familiar one in these parts. The once-thriving mine has long since shuttered its gates, leaving behind a legacy of unemployment and dashed dreams. The local economy, once bolstered by the steady hum of mining operations, has withered. Many families have left in search of work, while those who remain face a daily battle to make ends meet. The opioid crisis has taken its toll, with addiction casting a long shadow over the town's tight-knit community. Yet, despite the hardships, there is a resilience here-a stubborn pride in their Appalachian roots and a deep-seated suspicion of outsiders.

The recent influx of city folk seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of urban life has stirred mixed feelings among the locals. Drawn by the picturesque landscape and the promise of a simpler life, these newcomers have begun to gentrify the area, buying up old houses and turning them into quaint bed-and-breakfasts or boutique shops. To the residents of Pine Hollow, these changes feel like an invasion, a slow erosion of their way of life. The once-familiar streets are now dotted with cafes serving overpriced coffee, and the sounds of construction fill the air as more city dwellers stake their claim on the land.

This quiet tension between the old and the new, between the locals and the city folk, forms the backdrop for the story that is about to unfold. Among the townsfolk, three men stand out-two brothers and their cousin, each shaped by the town's struggles and the weight of unfulfilled promises. With little opportunity and a deep-seated frustration, they find themselves drawn into a life skirting the law to make a quick buck in a town that seems to have forgotten them.

In Pine Hollow, where the past lingers in the air like coal dust and the future seems as uncertain as the winding river, these three men are about to embark on a desperate and ill-conceived plan. What begins as a simple burglary will spiral into a series of tragic and farcical events, revealing the depth of their desperation and the absurdity of their choices. In a town where hope is a scarce commodity, their story is a testament to the lengths people will go to escape their circumstances, even if it means plunging into chaos.

This is their story-one of missteps, misunderstandings, and the darkly comic consequences of a plan gone terribly wrong.

This is not a true story, but the human frailty depicted here, is all too real.
