About the Book

The author has assembled into one book thirteen stories that tell the struggles of several people as they go thru their daily lives. He combined unabashed reality with imaginative fiction to turn the stories into an exciting and unforgettable reading experience. The book is divided into three parts. Part I contains four stories. In Boxing Day, Matthew rejects a materialistic lifestyle after he spent a few days working in a department store before Christmas. On Christmas Day, he drives to a landfill and befriends a group of homeless people scavenging for reusable items from the waste piles around them. In The Dreams of Alfred Shoemaker, a shoe repairman laments the declining business at his shoe repair shop. When the population stops buying and wearing shoes, he reinvents the shoes and brings the shoe industry back to life. Part 2 contains three stories. In A Tale of two Gorillas, a man is transformed into a gorilla and is mistakenly incarcerated in the zoo. In The Bringer of Madness, Joshuah builds pencil boxes shaped like coffins as punishment for causing his niece's blindness. In Archernar the Clown, two children travel across Texas and New Mexico to seek a clown living in the Carlsbad Caverns. Six stories make up Part 3. The stories tell the personal struggles of six individuals, among them Doug, Esther and Keiji. Doug succumbs to job pressure and imagines communists hiding inside an IBM System/370 computer. Esther devises a plan to make her boyfriends buy her the things she needs the most. Keiji struggles with his brother's death and his niece's disappearance.
