About the Author: Marcos Manuel Valcárcel Gregorio nació en La Habana, Cuba, en el año 1952. Percusionista, profesor, arreglista, director de agrupaciones, etc. pertenece a una familia de músicos fundada por su padre Marco A. Valcárcel Domínguez. Estudió en la Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA), en el conservatorio Amadeo Roldán y en el Instituto Superior de Arte de la Habana (ISA). En Cuba trabajó en la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, llegando a ocupar el puesto de timpanista solista. Además perteneció al Grupo Instrumental Nuestro Tiempo. En diversos períodos también trabajó en los conservatorios Amadeo Roldán, Alejandro García Caturla, Guillermo Tomás, Centro Nacional de la Enseñanza Artística (CNSEA) y en el Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) en donde ejerció como profesor de Percusión y Música de Cámara. En sus primeros años profesionales trabajó en el conservatorio de Camagüey y en la Orquesta Sinfónica de la ciudad. También ha impartido cursos en España, Portugal y Polonia. Actualmente vive y trabaja en Vigo, España, en donde ejerce de profesor en el conservatorio Mayeusis. Marcos Manuel Valcárcel Gregorio was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1952. percussionist, teacher, arranger, orchestra conductor, etc. It belongs to a family of musicians founded by his father Marco A. Valcárcel Dominguez. He studied at the National Art School (ENA), in the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory and the Superior Art Institute of Havana (ISA). In Cuba he worked at the National Symphony Orchestra, reaching the position of solo timpanist. He also belonged to the Instrumental Grupo Instrumental Nuestro Tiempo. At various times he also worked in conservatories Amadeo Roldan, Alejandro García Caturla, Guillermo Tomas, National Center for Arts Education (CNSEA) and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) where he taught Percussion and Chamber Music. In his early professional years he worked at the conservatory in Camagüey and the Symphony Orchestra of the city. He has also taught courses in Spain, Portugal and Poland. He currently lives and works in Vigo, Spain, where it exerts of teacher at the conservatory Mayeusis..
