About the Book

Ancient vampires live under the city, thirsting for new blood, creeping out through the ductwork. They escape tunnels to prey on the unsuspecting. On her way home from working at the theater, Deirdre meets Benton, but he is a reluctant vampire, longing for release from a curse he fears will last for eternity. Deirdre is attracted to Benton, who hides his vampire nature to show her his human side. As she finds herself falling in love with him, his identity is revealed and she prays for help to find a way out of the blood curse. One day after church, she confides in the priest, Father More, who has a taste for horror literature and considerable knowledge of vampire lore. He cautions her against forming a relationship with a vampire, but he tells her he will investigate ways to break the curse. Sidell, on the other hand, relishes his life as a vampire, and uses his glamour to ensnare one of Deirdre's friends. Can Deirdre slay a vampire to save an innocent person? Will Father More be able to free Benton? Will Deirdre accept her destiny as a slayer?
About the Author: Cindy Emmet Smith studied Theater Arts in college and began her creative life in the theater. She spent a number of years as wardrobe mistress, giving her firsthand insight into Deirdre's life. She and her husband have recently begun to travel. This spring they explored the five Celtic Nations in the British Isles, and September found them in Maine on a Windjammer Cruise. Aside from writing, Cindy has a passion for knitting, finding fiber images in many places. She self-published her first novel, The Cracked and Silent Mirror, in 2000. Her recent efforts reflect her love for the strange and wonderful, like the story "A Model of Decorum" appearing in Wolf Craft in 2013. You can find her in central Pennsylvania in a house with gargoyles on the porch. Visit her website www.cindyesmith.com or look for her on Facebook.
