Five women, each with a special role in life-a mother, an executive, an online seductress, a grandmother, and a child, are looking for value in that life. They have only one thing in common, a secret none of them knows or even suspects.
Momma has four beautiful children and a loving husband, but a combination of loneliness, health issues, and depression leaves her feeling withdrawn and undesirable. Melissa is her polar opposite, confident and seductive, allowing her heart and passions to control her life.
Katrina is a professional with a corporate mindset, running all aspects of her life like a business and resenting the demands homelife places on her career. Lola's a quiet, playful child with a content outlook on life. Sheltered by a protective family, she has a special friend she rarely sees.
Lucy, the oldest of the five, is the angriest. Bitter and disappointed, she feels trapped by how her life turned out. Children, an aimless husband, and illness block her attempts to make something for herself at every turn...or so she believes.
Five women have one unbreakable bond none of them understands. The Perils of Five brings them together.
About the Author: Katrina Marie Martin lives with dissociative identity disorder (DID), a condition often triggered by a traumatic experience. Faced with trauma, individuals place themselves mentally "outside" of their situation. For Martin trauma came in the form of childhood sexual abuse.
A person living with DID bears the risk of recurring symptoms when confronted with traumatic events. In Martin's case, the death of her father, hormonal imbalances, and depression led her to remove herself once again from her situation. Her relapse lasted for several years. Though in remission, she will never be fully free of the disorder.
The character of Melissa grew out of Martin's experience with chat lines. Being able to create a name, personality, and appearance online was liberating. She became Melissa Maxwell, and the idea for The Perils of Five began to take root.
