Das Ergebnis wird dem Anderen fast immer mehr oder weniger explizit zurückgemeldet. Beurteilung von Personal und Feedback werden zweckmäßig eingesetzt. Von besonderem Interesse sind die institutionalisierten Formen der Personalbeurteilung und des Feedbacks. Solche liegen vor, wenn sie absichtlich als Instrumente des Personalmanagements eingesetzt werden. In der unternehmerischen Praxis werden Beschäftigte eines Unternehmens in unterschiedlichen Zeitabständen und aus unterschiedlichen Gründen beurteilt. Je nach Zweck werden die Ergebnisse unterschiedlichen Personen mitgeteilt. Eine der Personen kann der Betroffene selbst sein, Art und Weise wie dies erfolgt kann sich von Fall zu Fall unterscheiden. Dem Betroffenen können die Beurteilungsergebnisse auch vorenthalten bleiben. In der Zeit der Humanisierung der Arbeitswelt werden diese aber meistens explizit mitgeteilt. In solchem Fall kann man über Rückmeldung oder Feedback sprechen. Ein Feedback in diesem Sinne kann jedoch unterschiedlich erfolgen. Es kann sich auf die Aushändigung eines Referenzbriefes oder des Beurteilungsbogens beschränken oder aber auch persönlich im Rahmen eines Gespräches, oder während eines Workshops erfolgen. Feedback als explizite Mitteilung des Beurteilungsergebnisses stellt also einen Bestandteil eines Beurteilungsgespräches dar, wobei diese Phase der Durchführung der Beurteilung von besonderer Bedeutung für die Entwicklung der betroffenen Person ist.
