Der Fitnessmarkt ist in Deutschland einer der größten Wachstumsmärkte im Bereich der Dienstleistungsbranche. Der Anteil der Studiomitglieder in Deutschland ist im Vergleich der Jahre 2015 zu 2016 um 4,2 % auf 9,46 Millionen Mitglieder gewachsen. Allerdings sind die Zahlen für Einzelunternehmen rückläufig. In diesen ist die Mitgliederzahl im Vergleich der Jahre 2015 zu 2016 um 3 % gesunken, während Kettenbetriebe einen Zuwachs von 7,3 % verzeichnen. Obwohl die Fitnessbranche immer umkämpfter wird und gerade Einzelunternehmen aufpassen müssen, nicht von Ketten verdrängt zu werden, setzen nur wenige Anbieter auf den E-Commerce als ergänzendes Verkaufstool. Auf den meisten Vergleichsseiten im Internet sind Fitnessstudios nicht vertreten. Erstaunlicherweise ist die Fitnessbranche eine der wenigen Branchen, in der auf den Internetseiten der Unternehmen noch immer sehr wenig erworben werden kann. Andere Dienstleistungsbranchen, wie z. B. die Hotelbranche, sind in dem Bereich fortschrittlicher. Diese haben zumeist Online-Kaufmöglichkeiten und sind auf zahlreichen Vergleichsseiten zu finden.
