Neben einer Biografie von Peter Behrens wird sein Verhältnis zu der Allgemeinen Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft dargestellt. Der Hauptteil beschäftigt sich mit dem baugeschichtlichen Hintergrund der AEG-Turbinenfabrik und beschreibt ihre architektonischen Eigenschaften. Abschließend wird die Kritik an dem Bau aufgeführt. Die AEG-Turbinenfabrik ist einer der wenigen bedeutenden Bauten in Berlin, der nicht im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört wurde. Es handelt sich dabei um einen Fabrikbau des 20. Jahrhunderts, der von Peter Behrens, einem Architekt, Maler und Graphiker, konzipiert wurde. Er hatte damit einen monumentalen Bau geschaffen, der für die Architekturgeschichte von großer Bedeutung ist. Er inspirierte nicht nur viele nachfolgende Architektengenerationen, sondern stellt auch einen Wandel in dem Verhältnis von Kunst und Fabrik dar. Um die Bedeutung der AEG-Turbinenfabrik zu verstehen, muss man sich zunächst mit der Geschichte des Fabrikbaus beschäftigen. Die Architektur war zunächst nicht vorrangig oder notwendig in diesem Bereich. Die Bauten des frühen 19. Jahrhunderts zeichneten sich lediglich durch ein einfaches kubisches Gehäuse aus. Bei der Betrachtung der Geschichte des Industriebaus ist zudem die Entwicklung der Maschine zu berücksichtigen. Verschiedene Erfindungen wie beispielsweise die Dampfmaschine verlangten nach Bauten, die unter anderem die Größe und das Material berücksichtigten. In Deutschland waren die Fabrikbauten, die zwischen 1780 und 1820 entstanden, an üblichen Arbeitshäusern orientiert.
