About the Book

English summary: This is the last of five volumes collecting the letters of the Renaissance poet and intellectual Petrarch. The letters span the public and private realms of Petrarch's life. Through these letters, Petrarch criticized the corruption of the Church, exults in the spread of Humanism, laments his disappointment with Charles IV, and defends himself from charges of jealousy towards Boccaccio. The volume also includes a series of letters written to the illustrious authors of Antiquity, in which Petrarch uses the past to better narrate the Humanism of the present. Critical edition with French translation.
