About the Book

During the night a saddleback weaner pig went looking for a midnight snack from his newly separated mother. It found Peggy Sam instead, part of a pile of quilts she was camping in, out on the back porch of the farm up the hill. It forgot it was hungry, and snuggled in for a snooze. Peggy Samantha, the only daughter of doting parents John and Frieda Johanssen, had been asking for a puppy. And as far as she was concerned, her prayers had been answered. Not coincidentally, George Lowe, a poor neighbor down at the bottom of the hill, discovered a pig missing that morning. He desperately needs the income. He wants his pig back, even if he has to take it back forcibly from Peggy Sam's father, his now ex-best friend. Sam's beloved pet pig is off to the auction house. And everybody knows what happens after that. The local characters whose farms neighbor the Johanssens concoct their separate and tangled missions to make matters right.
About the Author: Charlotte Terhune was born an artist and raised in a small town in Northwestern Missouri, graduating with dubious honor of Most Unique in her class. When she was there the town was going strong. When she moved away at nineteen, the town immediately started to shrivel up. It's not her fault. She has lived with her husband in the Seattle area for close to forty years. A native Seattlite, he met Charlotte while attending college in her hometown, and ended up bringing her back with him. Otherwise he wouldn't be able to find where he put anything, and she'd still be looking for somebody who could deal with her idiosyncracies and keep her semi-normal. Together they have raised two sons (one of whom has his own son now), a bunch of dogs and cats, and three possums. The possums were the best behaved. Charlotte is an accomplished artist, currently working mostly in watercolor but she's practiced in other media as well. She has maintained a home-based graphic design business called Semi-Serious Artist for over twenty years. In addition, she has written several books, and illustrated a few. The first one was for a Girl Scout badge. Most of them have not been published, and at least one of them is not fit for public consumption.
