About the Author: Elie M. Ferneini, MD, DMD, MHS, MBA, FACS, is a practicing oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Cheshire, Connecticut, USA and an associate clinical professor at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Ferneini is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University (BS, magna cum laude), Quinnipiac University (MHS, MBA), and University of Connecticut Medical and Dental Schools (DMD, MD). He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Connecticut and then undertook 2 years of general surgery training at the same institution. Dr. Ferneini has a long history of conducting research, resulting in over 70 scientific publications. He has lectured nationally and internationally. His professional interests span hospital-based and office-based maxillofacial surgical procedures, including reconstructive facial surgery, maxillofacial pathology, and cosmetic facial surgery. Dr. Ferneini is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is on the editorial boards of several leading journals and is currently the editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery. He is co-editor of the Springer books Perioperative Assessment of the Maxillofacial Surgery Patient: Problem-Based Patient Management, Complications in Maxillofacial Cosmetic Surgery, and Evidence-Based Oral Surgery.
Regina Landesberg DMD, PhD is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who has been actively involved in clinical and basic research throughout her career. Dr. Landesberg is a graduate of Ithaca College (BA, magna cum laude), University of Connecticut (DMD) and University of Rochester (Residency in Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery, MS, PhD, and Post Doctoral Fellowship in Orthopaedics). She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Landesberg has authored numerous scientific publications including several book chapters and has been the recipient of multiple basic science as well as clinical grant awards from NIH as well as private funding. She has lectured nationally and internationally on her research. Dr. Landesberg currently reviews for numerous journals, is an ad hoc reviewer for NIH study section and is on the review board for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation. Her research interests include maxillofacial reconstruction, bone and mineral biology, pathophysiology of Osteonecrosis of the Jaws and delivery systems for clinical uses of Platelet Rich Plasma.
Steven Halepas, DMD, MD, FACD is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Resident at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City. He was born and raised in Connecticut, USA. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (BS), University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine (DMD), and Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (MD). He has a passion for advancing the specialty of OMS through research and has produced over thirty scientific journal publications and has authored numerous book chapters in Evidence-Based Oral Surgery, Office-Based Maxillofacial Surgical Procedures, and Applied Head and Neck Anatomy for Facial Cosmetic Surgeons, and is the co-editor of the Springer bookThe History of Maxillofacial Surgery.
