About the Book

Zenea is one of the most important romantic poets of 19th century Cuba. He was persecuted by the Spanish colonial government, sentenced to death for his anti-colonial ideas, but was granted amnesty. After years of clandestine travels between Cuba and the United States, he was detained by a column of the Spanish colonial military, and shot. His poetry is marked by his romantic style and ideals, as by his political tendencies and the many travels he found himself forced to undertake over many years.
