About the Book

Poems For Skaneateles - Thayer Park Sessions is a gift book for friends and visitors of Skaneateles Lake and Village. It is a book of 18 poems, photos and narrative that tells a story of Skaneateles Lake and Village. Did you visit Skaneateles and wish you had explored a little deeper? This book will give you a subtle glimpse of this unique place. Content is ideal for travel and nature enthusiasts of all ages. Poem subject matter is based on topics of nature and community, and has a little science and mysticism sprinkled on top. The book combines literary work into an artisan craft for Skaneateles, New York travelers. Poems and photos were created during my 2013 project called the Thayer Park Sessions. The book is laid out in three sections. First is the introduction, which is followed by the poems and finally the photo narrative section. Each poem and corresponding photo is laid out on facing pages. The poems are also suitable for grandchildren and a wonderful way to foster discussion and share the story of the community. The majority of the poems were drafted in Thayer Park but there were three notable exceptions. Route 41 Ride was written at the photo location while sitting at one of the picnic tables. Mary was written at the photo location while sitting on the shrine's bench. Haiku was written at Creekside Books and Coffee, while sipping coffee at a café table. Haiku was also the last poem to be written. The photo narrative provides details about each photo. Some photos came easy while other took repeated trips to capture the desired essence. Poem photos were selected and matched during the editing phase of the book. Finally, the author's note share a little humor regarding the Skaneateles name. About the Author: John Michael Ryan grew up and continues to live in the Skaneateles, NY area. This is the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY. Our hometown basketball team is the Syracuse Orangemen. As a child and teen, my passion was outdoor activity such as fishing, hunting and gardening. Today I have a 1/10 acre vineyard and small orchard. My passion for shooting with a camera and capturing with a pen continues. I am married to Christine and we have two adult children. I am an Engineer with a career in medical products. I have written a lot of technical documents during my life. In 2010, I learned that I was supposed to be an author. So now I support this desire and write professionally. I have many hobbies and always seem to be learning something new. I practice meditation and Reiki and have a keen interest in science, metaphysics and shamanism. My first book Poems For Prince of Wales taught me what writing and publishing was all about. It was written at my son's home in Alaska and is available in local gift shops. My second book Poems For Skaneateles allowed me to deeply explore my creativity. It is written about our local community and available in local gift shops. I now present my third book Easy Hard Cider, which is based upon more than 15 years of experience with making hard cider and wine. With this book, I branch into the "how-to" theme of writing and publishing. The expected launch date is early 2016. Look for additional future books from John Michael Ryan. The publication of this book has been a rewarding experience and I am thrilled to share it with you. Thank you for reviewing my book and making my dream come true.
