Elle était amie de madame de T..., qui semblait avoir quelques projets sur ma personne, mais sans que sa dignité fût compromise. Comme on le verra, madame de T... avait des principes de décence auxquels elle était scrupuleusement attachée. Un jour que j'allais attendre la Comtesse dans sa loge, je m'entends appeler de la loge voisine. N'était-ce pas encore la décente madame de T... ? Quoi ! déjà ! me dit-on. Quel désoeuvrement ! Venez donc près de moi. J'étais loin de m'attendre à tout ce que cette rencontre allait avoir de romanesque et d'extraordinaire. On va vite avec l'imagination des femmes, et dans ce moment, celle de madame de T... fut singulièrement inspirée. Il faut, me dit-elle, que je vous sauve le ridicule d'une pareille solitude; puisque vous voilà, il faut... L'idée est excellente. Il semble qu'une main divine vous ait conduit ici. Auriez-vous par hasard des projets pour ce soir ? Ils seraient vains, je vous en avertis; point de questions, point de résistance... appelez mes gens.
About the Author: Dominique Vivant, baron Denon, dit Vivant Denon ou Dominique Vivant Denon, né à Givry le 4 janvier 1747 et mort à Paris le 27 avril 1825, est un graveur, écrivain, diplomate et administrateur français. Devenu directeur général des musées, il s'illustre particulièrement dans l'organisation du musée du Louvre. À ce titre, il est considéré aujourd'hui comme un grand précurseur de la muséologie, de l'histoire de l'art et de l'égyptologie Après avoir entrepris puis abandonné des études de droit à Paris, le jeune Vivant produit en 1769 une comédie, Julie, ou Le bon père, mais se fait surtout connaître pour son esprit et ses talents de causeur. Louis XV le charge de la direction du cabinet de pierres gravées de Madame de Pompadour et le nomme secrétaire d'ambassade à Saint-Pétersbourg. Lors de l'avènement de Louis XVI, il est transféré en Suède, puis en Suisse en 1775. Il profite du voyage pour rendre visite à Voltaire à Ferney et il écrit un conte libertin, Point de lendemain, qui paraît en 1777
