About the Book

Poor Little Book is a story-poem about a little book that is sad and blue because he has been left on the shelf. The modern world is full of gadgets since the radio waves were discovered to serve for more than one purpose, leaving poor little book aside and full of dust. Nowadays children play with tablets, smart-phones, and TV games as well as reading ebooks, which take the place of normal books. Poor Little Book has the mission to "recruit" the readers and make them aware of their importance. A book has to be felt with all the senses, not just with a virtual reality screen. Our eye-sight sense is losing capacity to focus properly due to training the eye to watch screens all day, every day for many years. This is very harmful for youngsters. A child forms his concepts from when he comes into this world, forming cognitive knowledge through what he perceives since he is a baby. If he includes too many screen images from before he can read, he will have a distorted sense of real natural world leading towards distorted physics. This will influence his learning capacity at school and for the rest of his life, not mentioning problems with his eyesight. There is a magic fusion between the reader and the book that cannot be compared to any other experience, from the words to the soul´s interpretation. This is when the book comes to life! Can a movie or a video do this? No it is already: "cooked, eaten & digested for you ....it doesn´t come alive !! It leaves no room for imagination, (just what the director wants to tell us). Another important fact is that books last for hundreds & thousands of years; How old is the "oldest" book known? Have you ever heard of a PC a hundred years old?
About the Author: Patt Skinner is a lively creative versatile artist and writer. She has travelled the globe since her mother´s womb. This experience has broadened her mind and her love and respect for life. She is half British and half Spanish. Her family genes come from artists and adventurers. Her Great grandfather was James Scott Skinner was a famous Scottish folk composer from Banchory. Her grandfather Antonio Perez Pereiro was a poet and her father James G. Skinner is a writer . She has been an artist all her life, ( with Oil & Pastel paintings in public and private collections round the world. ) She has been an actress and a voice /dubbing actress. She also has been a teacher for more than 30 years. As a drama teacher she was responsible for the entire performance: from direction, sets, scripts to costume design & manufacture for many theatre productions for children. She loves children, had three of her own, so she strongly defends the children´s right to pure true education through fun activities to entice the appetite for further knowledge through books, music, art, sport and a long etc. She wishes to share her new collection of original water-colour illustrated books with the world. Her little books are full of life and some include interesting facts to learn and pursue further if desired. She confirms Theoretical Physicist: Paul Dirac quote about his equations " If it is not beautiful, it doesn´t work", ( just like Mother Nature´s creations). She loves to write rhymes because they feel like music. A human´s brain tends to remember things learnt in a rhyme far better, hence if we combine all senses to appreciate a written piece, we will get a large satisfying effect which will aid memory skills too. Her quest is to let the public realize the importance of REAL books and they way the new generations are finding something so magical obsolete. This is why her art and music is essential to her poetry. Touching a real book is also a key feeling to enhance what reading is all about. As her first grade teacher wrote on her report card when Patt was only 8 years old: "Patricia has a good command of English and generally writes imaginative and humorous stories. "
