Karl Popper (1902-1994) ist unbestritten einer der ganz großen Denker der Moderne. Seinen Kerngedanken der "offenen Gesellschaft", der ihn spater weltberuhmt machen sollte, entwickelt er bereits mit 17 Jahren. Popper ist zu dieser Zeit gluhender Anhanger von Newtons Gravitationstheorie, mit deren Hilfe die Wissenschaft alle Bewegungen von Korpern auf der Erde und im Weltall erklart. Doch bei der großen Sonnenfinsternis von 1919 macht die Menschheit erstmals Beobachtungen, die Einsteins Relativitatstheorie bestatigten. Die Londoner Times schreibt: "Wissenschaftliche Revolution. Neue Theorie des Universums. Newtons Vorstellung gesturzt." Wenn dies so ist, wenn sich also ein Genie wie Newton geirrt hat und sein Wissen nach gut zweihundert Jahren durch ein noch besseres Wissen ersetzt werden muss, dann, so schlussfolgert Popper, gibt es vielleicht generell keine endgultigen Wahrheiten. Genau an diesem Punkt entwickelt er seinen brillanten Kerngedanken: "Das wissenschaftliche Wissen ist kein Wissen: Es ist nur Vermutungswissen". Jede naturwissenschaftliche Theorie gilt nur so lange als wahr, bis sie durch ein Gegenbeispiel widerlegt oder durch eine bessere Theorie ersetzt werden kann. Genau deshalb muss auch jede moderne Gesellschaft fur Kritik und neue Theorien offen sein. Das gilt auch und gerade fur die Politik. Statt wie Platon einen Idealstaat zu fordern, oder wie Marx und Hegel "totalitare", geschichtsphilosophische Ziele anzustreben, fordert Popper eine Politik der kleinen Schritte, eine "soziale Stuckwerktechnologie". Die naturwissenschaftliche Methode von Versuch und Irrtum, von Hypothese und Falsifikation musse endlich auch auf die Politik ubertragen werden. Das Buch "Popper in 60 Minuten" gibt Antworten auf die entscheidenden Fragen: Hat Popper recht? Ist all unser Wissen nur Vermutungswissen, beruhend auf Versuch und Irrtum?
