Der Buchdruck mit gegossenen beweglichen Lettern beginnt in Zweibrucken mit Jorg Gessler. Alle Zweibrucker Drucke von ihm sind heute nur noch in einem einzigen Exemplar uberliefert. Eine Auswahl davon ist in dieser Ausgabe faksimiliert.Der alteste datierte Druck aus dem Jahr 1492 veroffentlicht einen Wunderbericht "Wie Arnolt Bossman ein Geist erschien". Diese Mirakelgeschichte wurde sehr bekannt und ihre Wirkung reichte bis in die Reformationszeit. Bossmann, der aus der Gegend des heutigen Duisburg-Meiderich stammte, schildert seine Visionen, bei denen sich ihm in den Jahren 1437/38 der Geist seines Grossvaters Heinrich offenbarte. Der Bericht, der im Laufe des Uberlieferungsprozesses Veranderungen unterworfen war, erlangte grosse Popularitat. Mit diesem Text wird ein Stuck der selten uberlieferten spatmittelalterlichen Volksliteratur faksimilert, der sich durch die lebhafte Art der Darstellung und einem gewissen Realismus von trockenem geistlichen Schrifttum unterscheidet.Der zweite bekannte Druck von Jorg Gessler thematisiert ein aufsehenerregendes politisches Ereignis, den sogenannten "bretonischen Brautraub" von 1491. Maximilian von Habsburg hatte per Stellvertreter Anne, die Erbin der Bretagne, geheiratet. Die Heirat wurde in Frankreich als Herausforderung und Fortsetzung habsburgischer Umklammerungspolitik gesehen. Karl VIII. von Frankreich marschierte daraufhin in die Bretagne ein und heiratete Anne de Bretagne 1491 selbst. Vorher hatte er ein bestehendes Verlobnis mit Maximilians Tochter Margarethe von Osterreich gelost. Das Gedicht "Das Fraulein von Britannien" von Hans Ortenstein griff den Stoff auf, wurde von Gessler gedruckt und erlangte im Volksmund grosse Beliebtheit.Kommentare erlautern ausfuhrlich die Hintergrunde und Geschichte der Druckwerkstatt von Jorg Gessler.
