Den letzten erscheinenden Band der Präolympik-Untersuchungen widmet der Autor dem Poseidon in den homerischen Epen. Durch die genaue Betrachtung der Handlung des Poseidon und seiner Epitheta wird sehr rasch bestätigt, daß er erstens auch ein Präolympier ist, wie alle anderen bis jetzt untersuchten «Olympier», und er zweitens ursprünglich rein gar nichts mit dem Meer zu tun hatte, zu dessen Gott er durch Homer gemacht wurde. Nie befiehlt er dem Meer. Er befiehlt dem Wind, den Flüssen (Süßwasser) und vor allem der Erde (Beben und Vulkanismus). Verdeutlicht wird das durch seine Epitheta die sich in zwei Großgruppen teilen, der gai-Gruppe und der chton-Gruppe, beides erdhafte Begriffe, die 30 von insgesamt 46 Nennungen ausmachen, also in hohem Verhältnis überwiegen, wobei auch die restlichen keine Verbindung zum Meer zeigen. Er ist ein Erdgott, sagen die Epitheta. Er ist - der Handlung zufolge - ein Meergott, sagt Homer. Diese zwei Schichten Poseidons sind allgemein bekannt und gesichert. Neu wird hier erarbeitet, daß die Epitheta genaue Bedeutung und Verwendung haben, durch welche die Merkmale des Erdgottes exakt mitgeteilt werden. Da sie ursprünglich zur Gänze dem erdhaften Charakter angehören, stammen sie allesamt aus einer Epoche, die vor dem Meer-Poseidon liegt, der Epoche des Erd-Poseidon, der auch Süßwasser-Poseidon war.
About the Author: Der Herausgeber: Harald Zusanek, geboren 1922 in Wien, studierte Medizin, Philosophie, Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte sowie Schauspiel und Regie am Reinhardt-Seminar. Seit 1945 arbeitete er als Regisseur und freier Schriftsteller von Theaterstücken, Filmen und Fernsehspielen und gestaltete insgesamt 17 Dokumentarfilme. Ab 1967 war er als Professor an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Abteilung Film und Fernsehen, tätig. Er war Verfasser von mehr als 20 Dramen und wurde vielfach für sein Werk ausgezeichnet. Seit Mitte der 50er Jahre beschäftigte er sich intensiv mit den Epen Homers. Bei seinem Tod 1989 hinterließ er mehr als 10.000 Seiten zur Homer- und Präolympik-Forschung. Aus diesem Nachlaß erschienen bisher sechs Bände: «Rhodos und Helios» (1994), «Kalypso» (1996), «Die Nymphen» (1998), «Hermes» (2003), «Eos» (2005) und «Troizen-Alkyone» (2007).
