About the Author: Marc Shaw is Professor College of Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences, James Cook University, Australia. A Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practice, he was a Family Practitioner for 15 years before specialising in travel and tropical medicine and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine from Glasgow, a Fellow of the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine and a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine and Expedition Medicine from the same College. In 2008 he was made a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and was a recipient of the Inaugural Award for Travel Medicine from the Australian College of Tropical Medicine. He has research interests in all aspects of travel and geographic medicine, as well as a practical interest in expeditions to remote regions, having served as Medical Officer with the New Zealand Defence Forces in Bamiyan, Afghanistan and before that as Medical Officer in The Pitcairn Islands. Currently he is Medical Director of Worldwise Travellers Health Centres of New Zealand. Other medical interests include communication in Medicine, the Media and the Art of Medicine. He writes poetry, creates sculpture and can definitely tell the difference between a glass of Château d'Yquem and a bottle of gin!.
Claire Wong is a Travel Health Specialist Nurse at Worldwise Travellers Health Centres in Auckland, New Zealand. She has over 18 years of clinical and academic travel medicine experience in both the UK and New Zealand. She spent 10 of those years as a Specialist Nurse at the Public Health England commissioned National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) in London. Claire holds a diploma in Travel Health and Medicine and an MSc in International and Travel Health and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow.
