About the Book

"Practical Mysticism" is a collection of talks I gave following readings of key chapters from "The Teachings of Kirpal Singh". Each reading and talk focused on a different aspect of Surat Shabda Meditation: a method of focusing your attention upon and harmonizing it with the Eternal Spiritual Current (e.g., Word, Holy Spirit, Ruach, Kalma and Shabda). In doing so you will: a) lifted above body-consciousness; b) gradually cease to create karma; and, c) experience soul-realization, God-realization and spiritual freedom in this lifetime.
About the Author: I was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1958 and grew up in Arizona and California. Raised a Presbyterian, I was also an avid explorer of consciousness from a young age - and studied a variety of teachers and paths. I was initiated in the Shabda by Sri Darwin Gross in 1976. From that moment, I dove into the Spiritual Current, and never looked back. In the years following my initiation, I made an in-depth, comprehensive study of Surat Shabda Meditation, its history and lineages - east and west. But I always remained devoted to Darwin Gross, my spiritual teacher and friend. My love for Darwin transcended his passing on March 8, 2008, and on October 22, 2011, I began offering Surat Shabda Meditation Instruction, Initiation and Satsang in his honor. My goal in teaching Surat Shabda Meditation is to make these teachings available to all who are interested. Rather than present a rigid dogmatic system to which students must conform, I prefer to offer an open approach to spiritual growth. I give initiation and offer basic guidelines to meditation and living; but I trust people's inner wisdom gained through meditation to make good decisions and live honest, ethical, spiritual lives. By practicing Surat Shabda Meditation on a daily basis, you can learn to apply your inner realization to your outer life. With sincere devotion and practice, you will be able to personally experience above-body consciousness, self-realization, God-realization and spiritual freedom in this lifetime, and become creative, loving co-workers with God.
