About the Book

Prescription for the Disillusioned is an invitation to enter into a world of the magical mundane. The poet observes the curious and unique life given to each of us, cherishing the quotidian and commonplace experience as the precious gift it is. These poems are a personal response to the human condition, a conversation with life and loss, as well as an attempt to uncover the mystical in the day-to-day walk that we call our lives. At times political, at times personal, the poet always attempts to reach through the pain or struggle to find the treasures that are hidden in plain sight.
About the Author: Rebecca del Rio is an American born poet who divides her time between Northern California and Catalunya (Spain). She is a graduate of the University of Arizona Creative Writing Program, and has poetry published in literary journals in the United States, Canada, and Europe. In addition, she has a Masters degree in Public Health from Antioch University. For over twenty-eight years, Ms. del Rio worked as a dependency investigator in the Superior Court in Sonoma County, California. During this time, she was also involved in a non-governmental social work and public health project in Highland Guatemala. Along with her husband and several friends, she helped found Foundation Todos Juntos, which continues to support educational, social welfare and public health projects in Guatemala. As an enthusiastic traveler, Ms. del Rio has been fortunate to live and travel extensively in Europe, North and Central America, and Asia and has been exposed to many cultures, the diverse and significant histories of many regions and the consequences of globalization. These experiences have had a profound effect on her writing, as well as her spiritual and meditation practice. Ms. del Rio is married, mother of two adult daughters, and grandmother to six.
