En este cuento os quiero hablar del hermoso y alto pueblo de Chistén, situado en una atalaya del Valle de Chistau que lo coloca como el más alto del lugar. Eran pues tiempos muy viejos que las aldeas de la costa se construían en colinas o cerros en altitud que se amurallaban para defensa en caso de invasión. Los pobladores de Chistau eran íberos del Pirineo, descendientes pues de la princesa Pyrene, que murió ardiendo en el bosque por el fuego que provocó Gerión, un monstruo antropomorfo formado por tres cuerpos, tres cabezas y sus extremidades, procedente de la isla Eriteia, en el archipiélago de las Gadeiras (Cádiz). Pyrene era la hija más hermosa de Tubal, señor de aquellas tierras. Ella era la señora de las aguas que vivía en la inmensidad del bosque que Hércules atravesó cuando se dirigía a efectuar uno de sus doce trabajos. Estos bosques frondosos ocupaban lo largo y ancho del Valle de Chistau y se extendía por kilómetros en una apacible llanura frente al mar rodeada de suaves colinas y algunas montañas de considerable altitud.

Hércules atravesaba el frondoso bosque de Chistau cuando se dirigía a Eriteia, precisamente para robarle el ganado al mismísimo Gerión, cuya hermosa cabaña guardaba el ingente Eurition y su perro Ortro. Fue entonces cuando Hércules enamoró a Pyrene, y más tarde que temprano, de la misma forma que se enamoró, se aburrió de ella y abandonó a la princesa para continuar su camino. La belleza de Pyrene también había llegado a oídos de Gerión que salió a su encuentro para tomarla, siendo rechazado. Gerión entonces prendió fuego al bosque, que ardió envuelto en llamas.Hércules se enteró y volvió en busca de Pyrene, encontrando su cuerpo sin vida entre las cenizas del incendio.Destrozado, Hércules acumuló tantas piedras sobre su tumba que dió origen a los Pirineos. Pyrene había nacido a orillas del río Cinqueta, cuyo cauce atravesaba estas tierras con estos frondosos bosques hasta la desembocadura en el mar Intermedio.Justo el mismo lugar donde nació Puya, la hija del rey Moreras, señor de Chistén, la rica aldea que reinaba sobre el Valle de Chistau. La aldea estaba construida sobre una atalaya en la ladera del cerro Puyadase. La princesa era hija de Petris, más conocida como Andera, la diosa de la Tierra.
