About the Book

A promising young officer in the British Royal Navy. A fearsome pirate. A brave hero of the American Revolution. What is the improbable connection between these three men? Remarkably, they happen to be the same person. Privateer is the story of Mathew Carrigan, America's first naval hero. When a secret royal naval mission to recover ancient gold ends in disaster, Mathew investigates and his discovery challenges his loyalties. Consumed by revenge, Mathew commands a crew of naval mercenaries that intercept British cargo and military transports - as pirates, and the legend of the infamous Quicksilver is born. From intrigue in the British royal court to a treasure hunt in the Greek islands to stirring battles at sea, Privateer blends suspense, romance, and humor with several twists along the way.
About the Author: Since early childhood, I've been an avid student of the American Revolutionary War and of the founding fathers of the American political system. My passion for this period in history was rivaled only by my love of the game of baseball. My childhood heroes included the unlikely combination of John Adams and Henry Aaron. Following these dual passions, I majored in political science with an emphasis in international relations at UCLA, where I also played for the Bruins baseball team. In my junior year, I spent a quarter at Georgetown and interned in Congress. Upon returning to UCLA, a course in international political economies sparked a new passion in me: investments. I took a number of economics and accounting courses before graduating. After earning a master's degree in finance and accounting from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, I've enjoyed a 20+ year career in the investment advisory industry. My first novel, Privateer, was a wonderful experience combining my love of writing and my passion for the American Revolutionary War era. What started as a bedtime story for my children became an adventure novel with their spirited encouragement. My writing was a welcomed after-hours sanctuary from the challenges of the investment markets, and along the way, I rediscovered my admiration for the conviction, sacrifice and brave leadership of so many during our nation's inception. In my free time, I enjoy surfing, playing guitar, reading, writing, traveling and spending time with my wife and three daughters at our home in California.
