About the Book

" It is time to rhyme" Priya saw the world around her in a special way and told about it in her rhymes and drawings. They show her humor and her ability to overcome her handicaps through her creativity. Many of the rhymes in this book originate from Priya's recognition and delight in "accidental" rhymes plucked from normal conversation ("pour me some more", for example). Once a rhyme was started, she loved to string together as many rhyming words as possible. Despite her fine-motor impairment, Priya was a prolific artist. Her exuberant drawings distill the narrative of each rhyme into simple shapes of symbolic quality. See what she could do with a simple line drawing of a stick! And sometimes the drawings themselves inspired rhymes, completing the interplay between art and poetry. The proceeds from this book will be donated to Abilities United, where she Priya got some of her inspirations. www.abilitiesunited.org
About the Author: Priya Sadrozinski was a 24-year-old young woman with many abilities and disabilities. She loved to draw and had a passion for making up rhymes. She wrote them up (over 1180, her own and those of her friends) on her computer and collected the printouts on a long scroll rolled up on a rolling pin. Diagnosed at 2 months old with septo-optic dysplasia, she had to deal with numerous medical issues, including epilepsy, endocrine problems, developmental delay, visual, auditory and orthopedic problems, ambulance rides, surgeries and hospitalizations. Through all these challenges, Priya rarely complained, in great part due to the kindness and caring of the many wonderful caregivers, doctors, teachers, aides, therapists, nurses, etc who were such an important part of her life. Despite her disabilities, Priya lived a full life and was an inspiration and joy to her family and her many friends. In addition to drawing, taking art lessons, and composing rhymes, she loved to swim, and play the piano (she had perfect pitch). She enjoyed teaching herself about music using her computer or playing the keyboard and her drums. Priya lived in Palo Alto, CA with her parents, and saw her older brother often to enjoy painting and playing the drums. She participated in Abilities United's Adult Day Activities and Community Connections programs, and she benefited from its Aquatic Services for about 20 years.
