About the Book


About the Author:

Deva Fosterharoldas Swasto works in the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada as a lecturer and researcher since 1999, while currently also serves as the Head of the Department. He graduated from Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) - Erasmus University, the Netherlands and Lund University, Sweden for master degree in Urban Housing Management (receiver of Stuned scholarship), and from University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom for doctoral degree in Urban Housing Policy (receiver of Indonesia National Higher Education scholarship). His research interest focuses on urban housing policy and management, specifically related to low-cost vertical housing (walk-up flat) and the relation between public housing, management and health or well-being.


Dwita Hadi Rahmi is an Associate Professor in Architecture, Department of Architecture and Planning, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. Her research interests include cultural landscape, heritage architecture, and environmental management. She had written various books, amongst them are Resource and Environment (co-author), published in 2010 by Gadjah Mada University Press) and Borobudur Cultural Landscape (chapter), published in 2015 by Kyoto University Press Japan. She is also part of the Board of Advisors of Jogja Heritage Society.


Dr Yani Rahmawati is currently working as a lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Planning, at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. Previously, she was a lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia. During her tenure at UTP, she was appointed as project coordinator for consultancy projects. She was also appointed as visiting professor at the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities at Mahidol University, Thailand. Since August 2017, she secured 6 international research grants and other research grants at industrial and national levels, with main research interests in collaborative design, building information modelling, and sustainable construction.


Isti Hidayati works as a lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Planning, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. Her research focuses on urban mobility issues, gender and transportation planning, and sustainable mobility policies. She holds a PhD in spatial planning (2020) from University of Groningen, the Netherlands, in which she was awarded the Wierenga-Rengerink Award for best dissertation. Her recent works can be found in highly reputable journals such as Journal of Urbanism, Transportation Research part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour, and Journal of Planning Literature.


Jimly Al Faraby is currently working as a lecturer for the Department of Architecture and Planning, Universitas Gadjah Mada, after receiving his Ph.D in City and Regional Planning from Cardiff University, UK. His research and publications revolve around the topics of streets and public space, urban informality, housing, landscape, and community design and planning, with experience in professional practice as consultant to local and central government, and community groups in Indonesia. He is now serving as a Co-Vice Chair of Regional Spatial Planning Forum in Bantul Regency, Indonesia.


Alyas Abibawa Widita holds an academic appointment at Universitas Gadjah Mada, where he builds on his expertise to deliver research-driven insights and educational programs in urban design, mobility, and the built environment. His recent published works have appeared in Findings, Transport Reviews, Transportmetrica A: Transport Science, Case Studies on Transport Policy, and multiple refereed conferences. Alyas has consulted with and has his research funded and supported by the World Bank, Central Bank of Indonesia, Georgia Department of Transportation (United States), among others. He was a Fulbright scholar and holds a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology (2020).
