About the Author: "I enjoy letting the characters tell their own story. I start with a beginning line or paragraph and a vague idea of how the story will end -- the characters write the rest of the story. I just put their words on the page." And they teach me things. "Yes, I learn from my characters - sounds a little odd and perhaps somewhat mentally deranged, but there you have it. While writing THE CHANGING (prequel to PROGENY) one character repeatedly reminded me to 'take pleasure in the moment' and damn if he wasn't right. Writing has always been my dream, and I was living it! Am living it now." Leanette has lived in American Samoa, Guam, Hawaii, Alaska and most of the US Western states. She uses her knowledge of these cultures and places to augment the stories she tells. Leanette, writing under the name of Ashcraft, was a founding board member for Storyboard Journal of Pacific Writing and Culture - sponsored by the University of Guam. She is a former member of Guam Writer's guild and several fiction focused writing groups. Volunteer passions: Community TV productions; live video camera operator, live video director, program scheduler and equipment operations/troubleshooter. Leanette's university career focused on the arts - metal smith, literature and anthropology. While studying at Northern Arizona University, she volunteered and worked in the metal smith and ceramic labs. Though it was not part of her major, her interest in astronomy led her to volunteer Friday evenings at the university's on-campus telescope, which she later received certification to operate. Personal Anecdote: One evening, many years ago, while attending a story critique group in Ketchikan, Alaska, a fellow writer commented on my preferred genre saying, "Oh, you're the reason for the UFO sighing and all those strange occurrences at Point Higgins." It was a silly joke, but it led me to think - why not write a story about a science-fiction author who encounters an ET and subsequently questions her own sanity.
